Among the things that make me happy are David Bowie, science fiction, and your mom.

Important Dates in Science Fiction (signal boost would be appreciated)

I’m making a calendar for Loving the Alien of important dates in Science Fiction, partly to generate ideas for posts, but also because I think my fellow nerds would like that sort of thing.

So far, I’ve pathetically got Dana Scully’s Birthday (Today, actually) and Carl Sagan’s Last Interview… but to be fair to me, I just started it two seconds ago.

Obviously, I accept fictional dates.. like the the day the Time Traveller leaves for the future and then comes back (January 5th in the movie… though the date is never specified in the book) or very real ones, like October 30th, the day War of the Worlds was broadcast. Anything, just name it! I’ll stick it onto the most comprehensive SCI FI calendar ever made.

Just think…. all of those random days in your life… you could use them as an excuse to celebrate!

Friend: Why are we partying on a Tuesday night?

You: Today’s the day we were invaded by Martians!

or You: It’s Fox Mulder’s Birthday!

or You: Today’s the anniversary of Star Trek first airing!

or You: It’s the day WOTAN was destroyed, and therefore the computers were never networked and the Cylons can’t kill us!!
(okay, that last one, I managed to do a Doctor Who/Battlestar Galactica crossover. Wow.. wtf, Boom, wtf)

So, now I must ask: What do you think are important days in Science Fiction?

  1. geeksaurusrex answered: Oh my Sagan. This is a brilliant idea Boom! January 12, Day Hal 9000 was born. November 5th, 1995 (Need I say where that is from?). gleeeeeee
